The Photo Section of Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur has been functioning
since the British Empire in India. The first, two month Photography Course
was introduced in November, 1938. In 1941 the duration of course was
extended for Three months. During 1942-43 Single Digit Training was
introduced in the photography course.
The Photo Section of PPA has been imparting Basic Training of Photography
as well as Videography which includes subjects like Investigation, Scene
of Crime, Scene of Accident, Finger Print, Foot Print, Document
Photography, Photography of Accused, Photography of Mob & Riots etc.
The police personnel of different ranks from the states of J&K, Himachal
Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Manipur, U.T. Chandigarh, Andeman & Nicobar
alongwith Punjab and also from BSF and CISF had been coming PPA Phillaur
for training in Photography. Even now the state like Himachal Pradesh, and
U.T. Chandigarh and Andeman & Nicobar send their police personnel in this
Academy to get training in Photography.
With of the revolution in technological advancement in the age of
globalization, digital photography has been, recently, introduced in Photo
Section for the training purposes. Moreover, under the auspicious guidance
of Sh. R. S. Gill, IPS, DGP-cum-Director, PPA, Phillaur a Photography
Course for NGOs, Lady Head Constables and Lady Constables has been started
since 2006.
Members of the Photo Section are always participating in the Photography
as well as Videography Competitions in All India Police Meets. Till Now
they have won 2 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal in
Photography Competitions. Two Gold Medals alongwith Championships and One
All over Trophy in Videography Competition have been credited to the staff
of Photo Section, Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur.
