LIBRARY  Of  PPA

The Library of Punjab Police Academy was established as a reading room in the year 1899, and it was allowed to be used by the officers only. Later on it was shifted to the old building in the Fort that was called Lal Patara and it remained there for 20 years. Again the building was demolished being declared as unsafe and the library was shifted to D block extension of Indoor Wing of PPA. Recently in the year, 2004 a new building of library has been constructed by the Punjab Police Housing Corporation with he cost of  Rs. 53 Lakh 80 thousands. The Library new building was inaugurated by Dr. G. S. Aujla, IPS, ADGP & the then Director, PPA Phillaur in March 24, 2004. It is equipped with all the modern facilities. It has a separate magazine section, reading hall for senior officers and a lot of space for staff and trainees.

There are about 40,240/- books in the Library. Special emphasis has been laid on the books related to police working. It also has books on Social Sciences, literature, reference books for research purpose and a number of rare books and manuscripts.

Staff:-

The Library has one Librarian, one Library attendant, Three temporary assistants including one computer operator, one H.C. and one L/C.

Magazines/Journals:-

In addition to about 40,240/- books on various subjects 30 magazines/journals on different languages are also made available to readers on monthly basis. Recently 92 new arrivals are added to the collection. On the demand of the officers and trainees new books/journals are also purchased from time to time with the formal approval of W/Director PPA. Separate accession registers are maintained for the record of books.

Computerization/Documentation of the books:-

Catalogue of books has been entered in the computer of the Library to find out the books easily. For this purpose, Author’s Name, Title Name, Year of Publication, Place of Publication, Accession Number and Classification Number is entered.

Working Hours:-

 Working hours of the Library shall be fixed by the W/Director Presently opening hours as per following

Morning 10 AM up to Law Classes

Evening 3.30 PM to 5.30 PM Monday to Friday

Morning 10 AM up to law classes Saturday
