INTRODUCTION

In the present scenario when the crime has increase day by day. If we say crime increasing but its Modus Operandi has also developed. The Criminal commit the offence by the latest techniques e.g increasing of Cyber Crime, Counterfeit Currency etc. In which the Criminal uses latest techniques and its very trig challenges for a police officer to investigate this type of heinous crimes. An officer who investigating these type of crimes must be trained by technically and mentally.

 

The Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur where it has the imparted training in all field and trained the police officers in all type of investigations has also started to get the knowledge to the Police officer in Cyber Crime or we can say Computer Crimes which is covered under IT Act (Information and Technology Act 2000).

ESTABLISHMENT OF I.T. CENTRE

With the thought to get the police officers trained in the filed of Cyber Crime or another crimes related with the computer crimes which are under I.T. Act the Academy has establish a new Information and Technology Centre under the able supervision of the then ADGP-cum-Director Dr. G. S. Aujla, IPS, and it was inaugurated by the then DGP,  S. Sarabjit Singh, IPS (the then DGP), Punjab on 25.8.01.

The centre has started its working with 20  PCs. But in view of the demand of the training in Computer Crimes at present the centre has now equipped with 40 PCs. Even to developed it more the proposals are under progress under the able guidance of Sh. R.S. Gill, IPS, DGP-cum-Director, PPA, Phillaur.

TRAINING ON IT/ CYBER CRIME

The Information & Technology Centre of Punjab Police Academy has given two types of training first to those trainee officials/ officers who are undergoing the Basic/Advance Courses at PPA. The second types of training by running of specialised courses for  GO’s/ NGO’s. All the computers are connected with Local Area Network. Internet facility is also available inside the academy for students, trainees, staff members & civilians.

The Academy’s computers and equipped with latest software. It provides specialized training like Crime Criminal Information System (CCIS), Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA), Portrait Building, Talash, Property , MVIS, Finger Prints System etc.

The Trainees who are undergoing the Upper, Intermediate, Lower School Course given the computer training in six parts as under :-

(COMPUTER BASICS)

  1. What is Computer? Characteristics, uses, history and computer generations

  2. Function and components of Computer System, Input and Output Devices etc

  3. Hardware and Software and its kind, CPU, ALU, Memory etc.

  4. Classification of computers on basis of memory size and power

  5. Operating Systems (OS) and its functions.

PART -II

(WINDOWS)

  1. Introduction to Window-OS, Desktop, Mouse operations, Running an application, Managing windows, Starting up and Shutting down the computer.

  2. Windows Accessories-Calculator, Paint, Word Pad (Basic typing and editing tools)

  3. Handling Files and Folders, Recycle Bin, My Computer.

 PART -III

(MS-Office)

  1. Introduction to MS- Word -creating/ opening a document, basic formatting tool. saving, closing document and hands on practice.

  2. Introduction to MS-Excel-what is Spreadsheet, Starting & Working with MS-Excel, Entering text and numeric date, editing cells, Erasing the cells-saving, closing and file, opening existing file and printing of MS-excel.

  3.  Introduction to MS-Power Point -starting, creating and presentation, adding and editing, Power Point View options, saving and closing.

(INTERNET)

  1. Internet -concept, uses, requirements and connecting to Internet

  2. Sending and Receiving E-mails

  3. What is Cyber Crime and types of crimes crime.

PART-V

(CRIME CRIMINAL INFORMATION SYSTEM)

  1. Introduction to CCIS. Aid to an Investigating Officer

As well as training to the basic/advance courses the Academy has also run some specialized courses on Computer  & Cyber Crime for GO's and NGO's.. In which they got the basic knowledge of computer, Internet & Cyber Crime by theoretically and as well as practically. The Academy successfully running the these types of courses, the faculty from the field who have the expertise in the field of computer crimes (by theoretically/practically) are invited. The Academy has also its own trained faculty members in the computer field who are also imparted the training to the officers. At present the centre is running under the direct great and kind supervision of Sh. S.K.Verma, IPS, Deputy Director (Indoor), PPA, Phillaur.

Computer Basic and Professional Computer Courses

Wherever the academy has taken the oath to trained the police officers/officials in computer field it has also decided to run the computer courses for the children of police employees and civilians. It has designed two types of computer courses "Computer Basic and Professional Computer Course". The Centre has already conducted 2 batches successfully. At present approximate 70 students are undergoing in here course. At the end of the courses the students are given the Course Completion Certificate. So that the children of police employees and as well as civilians get the benefit of there courses in future.

At the end had not least not pertinent to say not the information & Technology Centre of PPA, Phillaur is typing to for the paucity futures by the contusing of his type of heinous crime to trained the police, and it is the try to make bright future of the country/state by giving the teaching to the students/children of the police employees as well as civilian.
