HORSE RIDING

Introduction
Horse Riding is considered as one of the best form of exercises, due to its full effects on every nerve and organ in the body. It is one of the most pleasant forms of out-door recreation and contributes to a more healthy body and mind. If we trace back into the history, we come up with the result that horses have always been a part and parcel of forces.

Many great warriors were famous due to their horses and many famous wars were won on the basis of mounted force.   Chetak of Maha Rana Partap and Lely of Maharaja Ranjit Singh were as famous as their masters were. One may obviously say that the horse has been participating in all the romance, recreation and adventure of man’s life since medieval time. In the pageantry of war, the splendor of knighthood, the triumph of peace, the trial and hardship of setting new hand and glamour of man’s leisure time such as the hunting field, polo contests, the show ring and racing, the horse has carried on through the centuries and it has shared every moment of man’s success.
Owing to the importance of horses in the forces, the horse riding training has always been the part of police training since the origin of this Police Training School.

Objective

·        To keep the forces fit.

·        To apprehend the criminals in the areas where other means of transport cannot help,

·        To help in the prevention measures of crime.

·        To link the criminal activity with the criminal.

Training

There are twenty horses that are being used to impart training to the Police Trainees of various courses according to the approved syllabus. These horses are also used to participate in state level functions / police functions.

Duration of  the training

for Proby. DSPs/Insprs  - 1 year    = 60 Parades

for SIs/ASIs                 -  1 year   = 60 Parades

for upper/Inter              -                 20 Parades

The students of M.R.S. Police Public School, Phillaur are also given training in horse riding.

Achievements

The Punjab Police Academy has established an equestrian team headed by Insp. Harpal Singh, The members of the team have participated in All-India Equestrian Competitions/ Police Meets and being awarded 28 Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

During the 20th All India Police  Meet  held at New Delhi in the year 2000, the riding team of "PPA, Phillaur" has  won 1 Gold Medal and 1 Silver Medal.

During the 21st All  India Police Meet held at Jalandhar in 2001, PPA riding team has won 2 Gold Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.

The Riding Team of Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur won 1 Silver Medal during the  National Games held at  Punjab in Nov.,2001.

Efforts are being made to modernize and equestrian team of Horse Riding  with latest equipment.
